I feel like I may have been living under a rock until last week. How could a bibliophile like myself not know about this?
While researching all the social media that an author is 'supposed to' be familiar with, several of the books I'm reading discussed understanding my audience and connecting with potential readers. An avid reader for years, I was mystified as to where my audience was. I mean, I'm part of my target audience so where would I hear about a new book? I thought about it and realized I usually find them by happy accident (I totally judge books by their covers) or have a friend recommend them to me. So how was I supposed to connect to the massive audience that loves Fantasy, and more specific Young Adult Fantasy, if I'm not even sure how to find the books myself? Honestly, I'm not sure exactly how I found it. It may have been a Google search for 'book blog'. But it felt like the sky's parted and sunshine warmed my soul. Enter: Goodreads
After setting up my account it asked me what genre of books I like to read. I put in my preferences and it showed me books in that genre and I simply clicked to say that I had read it and gave it a rating.
Then the magic really happened. Suddenly I was able to see other books that I'd be interested in reading. I could connect with my favorite authors and see what they are reading. Nerdvana! You can connect with your friends too and they can recommend books. It's in effect like Facebook for books. There are discussion boards too where you can connect with other readers that enjoy the same genres that you do. It's a book club that is potentially world wide. Below is a sample of the books in my read bookshelf. I haven't written reviews for all of them, but I may slowly get to some of my absolute favorites so my friends can see what I love to read. If you can't tell, I love a good series since I love spending a lot of time with the characters I've grown to know and love.
So, here's to all those hashtags that I'm supposed to know about too.
#Goodreads #AmReading #BookLove #YAFantasy #AmWriting #WipWriting Check out the newest page on my site
I've created a page called 'For Bibliophiles!' where I'll put fun stuff for people who love books.
